Purpose and Goals

Purpose

The purpose of Allies is to bring together students at BSC to actively discuss GLBTQ issues and address discrimination on Birmingham-Southern College’s campus as well as in the surrounding community. Allies also serves as a place for students to seek answers from their peers about many issues, such as coming out, family relations, dealing with discrimination, etc. Furthermore, Allies seeks to address political and social issues facing our local, state-wide, and federal communities through political activism and partnering with outside organizations, such as HRC and BAO.

Goals

To foster discussions about GLBTQ issues among members of the organization, members of the Birmingham-Southern community, and members of the population abroad. To educate all students about the dangers of STIs and AIDS. To foster a safe environment for members of Allies to grow and become comfortable with their sexuality and gender and similar traits of others around them. To create and maintain a strong working relationship between students and faculty supporters. To work with outside organizations to address political and social issues on the local, state-wide, and federal levels.
